Rain World is a moody survival-platform game by Videocult. In the game you play as a slinking Slugcat which seems to be a mix between a coyote, wild cat, and a ghost. Slugcats like to eat most of what they find, but are equally delicious to others in the game. It has a weird charm to it, mostly due to the love and indie attention that went into creating this game. The game looks similar to the original Super Meat Boy, but the mechanics and theme are different. An inside source said the game has sold around 300,000 copies so far.

Rain world turned the designed rooms into an ecosystem, where it's eat or be eaten. The main weapon you have to fight off bigger predators who'd like to make you lunch is your spear. There are no powerups, but you can throw your spear in multiple directions and faster if you do it while jumping. The game is relatively massive as far as places to roam around, trying to avoid being eaten. You can get stuck in this dark world for hours, so remember to take snack breaks and walk outside. Wear sunglasses.

Gameplay is considered difficult. To survive in the environment, you'll need a few extra bits of strategy, and if you hope to beat the game. It helps to pick up rocks and other loose debri on the platforms, which can then be used as projectiles against enemies. If you don't have room to carry a rock, you can eat it to store it for later. Some of the plants are edible and nutritious and your spear can help you forage them. Also, you can go to higher unreachable places by throwing your spear into a wall and then jumping onto it as a temporary platform. Remember, you don't need to kill every enemy you see. You should avoid the ones that you can.

The animations are interesting, especially the hunting type animations. Overall, the gameplay and amount of hours you can get lost playing Rain World are great. Everything is smooth and solid, and there's extra downloadable content if you still can't get enough slugcattin'. Rain World is a moody and dark place, but sometimes it's fun to sip coffee and be moody.
